Flodesk vs. Mailchimp vs. Convertkit - Which Email Marketing Platform is Best for Business Coaches?

I’ve been a business coach for six years and I have owned my own marketing agency now for over three years and so we have A LOT of experience with so many different platforms.

Here’s the thing - I love simple. I like ease of use. I like a platform that is going to be super intuitive and easy to navigate.

Here’s a little bit about how I utilize my email marketing platforms -

I send out a weekly newsletter with occasional secondary emails to leads. I also have various opt-ins with workflows for nurture and welcoming sequences. I also sell digital products and my current email platform gives me the capability to do that which is great! For automations, I utilize ManyChat and when someone opt-ins on social media for one of my lead magnets, that information is sent to my email marketing platform as well because it integrates.

So if that is also you, you have come to right place and I’ll share my experience with these three top email providers because I have tried them all!

So here we go!

Flodesk

I do love Flodesk. Ease of use. Easy to navigate. It checks my boxes for sure. Let me tell you about Flodesk.

If feminine, clean, simple, minimalistic designs are your brand, Flodesk is for you. (Of course you have every opportunity to customize colors and templates as well!)

Flodesk didn’t start that long ago and they keep adding new features all of the time which is kind of cool to be a part of something that is being built as we speak. Their main features are in and they have installed a checkout area that can be used for e-commerce which is helpful to so many brands and businesses.

Anytime they have a new update, they will give you the opportunity to test it as well and get feedback. Think of using Flodesk as just another small business. As a company, they truly care about what you think and how you use the platform and communication is always accessible.

Some of their other newer features include a “link in bio” page where it is similar to Linktree but can be hosted right in your Flodesk account and customized to your brand all for no extra charge.

As far as pricing, Flodesk has a fixed rate. UNHEARD of. Literally doesn’t matter how many workflows, segments or subscribers you have. It’s the same price for everyone.

Convertkit

I used Convertkit a few years back as my second email platform I ever used. (The first one was Mailchimp which I’ll get to in a second!)

I preferred Convertkit over Mailchimp at the time and wanted something that was a little bit more worth my money as Mailchimp at the time was raising prices.

I didn’t have very many campaigns going at the time but I did have 500+ subscribers and adding more every day so it was essential for me to start doing a bit “smarter” campaigns and automations to make sure I was nurturing the right subscribers.

I’d also say the templates are limited unless you know how to truly design and know HTML. My landing pages for my opt-ins always looked slightly different than my website where I couldn’t truly get it to look like my branding. For me as a sole team member, I didn’t find designing the emails very easy and the templates weren’t the prettiest. They are customizable but it’s a lot of work.

My take on Convertkit ended up being that my business really wasn’t ready for something as capable as Convertkit. I stayed with Convertkit for about two years until I switch over to my final platform and have been there ever since.

Convertkit is a great tool and you can do SO MUCH with it however the price for me is outside my budget for what I need to do at the time. If you have a bigger list and are constantly running automations to various segments, this is the more advanced place for you!

Mailchimp

This was the first email platform I ever used!

It worked so well for me back in the day when I was starting my business. It’s super easy to use and I was able to do so much for it on their free plan.

Well, times change and unfortunately they started charging for every thing I wanted to do so that’s why I decided to move over to Convertkit. One thing that I did find rather difficult as well (and knew there had to be a better way) is that MailChimp does not utilize segmentation the way Convertkit and Flodesk do. Mailchimp utilizes “groups” so if someone signs up for one of your lead magnets and goes through a workflow, they are assigned to that group, however it’s hard to see if someone is assigned to multiple groups. With tags and segments, it’s a lot easier to have people go through multiple workflows on these other platforms. Tagging or segmenting in Mailchimp is a manual process which even when I had a small email list, it was so much work.

Mailchimp again is a great platform to do some simple tasks but the price is definitely more expensive for what you get compared to other email platforms.

Mailchimp is definitely easy to use and get started with, however as you grow your business there may be better options.

Top Recommendation

My top recommendation here is Flodesk. This is the email platform I have used for the last 4 years and I won’t be changing anytime soon. I recommend this to all of my clients and every single client has loved it so far. Truly ease of use and the gorgeous templates make it so easy to say yes!

Simple. Ease of use. Key features such as link actions, checkout pages and more and more integrations are added everyday (it connects with Zapier so you can essentially connect it to anything you have!). The price is just right as well and it is fixed where you don’t have to worry about increasing prices for a growing list.

If you want to try Flodesk for yourself, here is my link that will give you 50% off for your first year! Definitely well worth it!
