Starting the Year Off Slow

Slow and steady wins the race right?

I know we are in the middle of the 20 Days of Lead Generation and I’m chatting all things Lead Generation for the month of January but I felt this topic is more important today.

It’s easy to feel the new year, new energy and do all of the things right out of the gate. I truly love the feeling too and I love thinking of all the possibilities the new year brings!

Well, we are still in the middle of a pandemic also. Things are still changing all around us every single day.

For me personally, the last month has been a little crazy and I found out over the last week COVID finally came knocking on my doorstep.

My husband had Covid late last year and we lived quarantined from each other and at that time I never got it. (Surprisingly since we live in a one bedroom apartment!). However over the month of December, I had a cold that wouldn’t go away and was forced to ease up on some days.

Now over the last week, my plans for daily lives on Instagram and all of the things I had planned went out the window.

Old Lauren would find a way to do it all still. New Lauren (born sometime during this pandemic) says absolutely not and will force herself to lay in bed and work all day.

See, Old Lauren (pre-pandemic Lauren) NEVER called off work; like not even when I had cancer the first time. I had massive guilt around calling off; and out of my 16+ years working any kind of job; I have probably called off 5 times in my life.

Maybe it’s easier as we get older to learn these lessons; but I do have some friends who have no problem calling off so maybe it is a people-pleasing aspect as well.

So my point here is this; January is the first month out of a very long year. You can harness all the new year, new energy all you want but sometimes things happen and you need to pause on really taking off for the year. It’s okay. You aren’t losing. You aren’t missing out. Everything and everyone will be waiting for you when you get back.

If it’s not this, it’s something better. Plus, it seems like everyone else is sick right now anyways.

Hope your new year is maybe a bit better than mine though so far and you aren’t quarantined to a bedroom. Here’s to going outside with all the people in a few days!
